#6: A Temporary Website—FREE!

We all know a website presence is mandatory for businesses today. The cost can be free, to up to tens-of-thousands of dollars per site, based on the complexity and interactivity of the site. I started The JNP Project’s initial site for FREE.

JNP-webstie1-banner-The JNP brand was intended to be a digital business, therefore; an interactive website would become the ‘nucleolus’ to it’s every part of business activity—I knew that—but initially, I needed to get a site up that simply defined ‘what’ JNP was about, in order to illustrate and discuss it’s developmental options with business professionals, and others.

JNP_ORIGwebstieI already had a ‘host’ company, so I called them and inquired what my options were. The ‘host package’ I already had for my Advertising Design Business, allowed me another FREE hosted website, and with their feature called a ‘Builder’ I could assemble the site with my choice from their ‘Templates’ provided.

In PhotoShop, I created a masthead photographic image, that gave the site a bit more of a professional look, and defined the existing history of the business on it’s initial market testing run. I didn’t have the time to waste to design the site—it was all about the content. I started with just a few pages, and added content and pages as needed. Based on others who would be reviewing the site (professionals and advisors), I added information that validated who I was, and what this ‘start-up-business’ was all about. Pages such as: Home, About, My Story, Team, Advisory Committee, Contact and Career Opportunities. It served its purpose.

Going into it, I knew this would be a temporary site, and that a fine-tuned, cleanly designed and clearly communicative site would need to be done down the road. At this point of the business development, it worked. This was also noted in my Business Plan.

Note: This Blog is a chronological diary of a start-up-company—The JNP Project’s Journey—reading it from the start, will broaden your understanding of the path we are on, together, and hopefully, positively influence you in some way!

FYI Tip: I have used several of these website ‘host’ companies – they are all rated highly by consumers. The choice is basically yours based on your desired preference for the amenities you need and want.
