Get a Team together? First I had to decide “which” direction to go???… in order to get the correct Team(s) together to follow the path The JNP Project needed to grow into.

Let’s back track for a moment. I originally worked to develop this project as a “girl’s” self-esteem brand. Yes, that’s right. Having all sons of my own, I still went down the road of “girls” empowerment.

A storybook and supporting character plush toys, along with accompanying accessories was developed. This was the initial focus on this first go-round for girls esteem.

We designed, developed and assembled the products and went out to test-market the Jane NOT Plain brand.

Crouds everywhereWOW! I was blind-sided… “what about the boys?!?” was the question at every live appearance (as I was often dressed as the Mermaid Princess character in the initial storybook) on: television, in-person mall readings; library story-time readings, B2B marketing events (NYC Toy Fair, Atlanta Toy Fair, Chicago Book Fair), parades, and speaking events at schools. The girls were ‘all over me’ at every event. Some boys were curious, but we had a fantastic following of young girls (because this was a brand of products for girls). A Jane NOT Plain (the initial brand for girls) Fan Club was even developed by a pre-teen group of girls in the Philly area. The excitement and positive energy was well noted.

Still, with all this great energy about self-esteem, something was missing, “what about the boys,“ was asked by parents and adults.

Okay. The results were in: a self-esteem project for both girls and boys needed to be developed–and we needed to hit a YOUNGER CHILD AUDIENCE–kids 5 -12+ years old was what was determined to be the perfect demographic for JNP!

So, deep breath—lets now focus on this pivotal redirection. It’s a biggie.

Time invested. Personal money invested. Creative invested. And now, we need to redevelop direction as asked by the “public consumer.” Well, the Public is whom we are connecting with; therefore, if they ask, want and need, then, I listened…and so, I went on to do…
